(AP) SREBRENICA, Bosnia-Herzegovina - Authorities in Bosnia are opening 98 graves containing incomplete remains of Srebrenica massacre victims to add newly found and identified bones.
Sadik Selimovic, of Bosnia’s Missing Persons Institute said Friday that the families of the victims have agreed to the reburial, and often attend.
Serb troops executed more than 8,000 Muslim Bosniaks after they overran Srebrenica close to the end of Bosnia’s 1992-95 war. They dumped their bodies into mass graves but later relocated them with bulldozers in order to hide the crime.
Parts of one body are often found in several different mass graves and put together using DNA analysis. They are then laid to rest at a memorial center in Srebrenica with previously discovered parts until a full skeleton comes together.
