ABC 6 News David Springer Honored with Edward R. Murrow Award

David SpringerABC 6 Assistant News Director and Reporter David Springer has been honored with a 2010 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in electronic journalism.  The Radio Television Digital News Association made the announcements April 7th.  Springer won in the broadcast news-writing category in Region 4 which includes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.  His winning composite included a story on a pending church demolition in Oak Ridge, Tractor Day at Triton High School in Dodge Center and a special report on an Iraqi family that moved to Rochester.

ABC 6 News was the only local television station to receive one of these prestigious awards. News Director Mike Schram commented, "The Murrow Awards are one of the broadcasting industry's most prestigious honors.  This recognition is a testament to the quality reporting accomplished every day by David Springer and his colleagues at ABC 6 NEWS.  Throughout his career, David has covered some of the top newsmakers, breaking news, severe weather, major events, and issues that impact our viewers but his stories of everyday people leading extraordinary lives set him apart.  David is not just a great journalist; he is also a great mentor for up-and-coming reporters.  He upholds the highest standards: a trait embodied by the work of Edward R. Murrow.  We are very fortunate to have David as part of our ABC 6 News team producing some of the best newscasts for the viewers of southeastern Minnesota and north Iowa."

Springer is now entered into the National Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be judged in early June. He is already a five-time Emmy winner and a two-time recipient of the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award for news writing.
