(KAAL) - Clear Lake draws lots of visitors for it's museums, shops, and recreation.  But there's another place that welcomes people with peace and tranquility, and it's a great spot for a summer picnic.

Nestled in the heart of Clear Lake you will find the Central Gardens of North Iowa.

Two-and-a-half acres of garden, that's actually several gardens in one.  There's the ornamental garden, the butterfly, and the lily pond. Construction on the newest pavilion was just completed.

It's the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon, take a walk, bring the kids, or enjoy some quiet time with nature.

The Central Gardens are completely maintained by volunteers; funded through grants and donations.

Construction on a new building with a greenhouse just began.

The gardens are open every day, dusk to dawn.  It's free to get in, but donations are welcomed.
