Jim is a Minnesota native through and through. He grew up in the northern suburb of Fridley. His love of weather began at the young age of three when a tornado struck a nearby nature center.
"Growing up, I was always afraid of the weather, until my father taught me not to be. He would always tell me everything will be ok, and have me watch the clouds & lightning once the storms had passed."
Jim graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology. After college, he interned at ABC 6's sister station, KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities. Not long after, Jim got his first on air job as the Weekend Meteorologist at KEVN-TV in Rapid City, South Dakota. He started his career here at ABC 6 News in October 2011 as the Weekend Meteorologist. Shortly after that, he became the Morning Meteorologist in September 2012.
When he's not forecasting, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife (and high school sweetheart), as well as the rest of his family and friends. Jim is an avid fan of camping, fishing, boating, biking, and anything else that has to do with the outdoors. He's also a big hockey and baseball fan, cheering on the Wild, the SCSU Huskies and Twins.
