(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Five students had to be taken to the hospital after their school bus was rear-ended this afternoon.

It happened just before 4 o'clock about five miles north of Rushford on Highway 43. The State Patrol says the bus was rear-ended by a SUV driven by a 53-year-old Winona man.

More than 20 children from the Rushford-Peterson School District were on the bus when it was hit. The district says five of them, ranging from third to seventh grade, were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

An announcement was made tonight at the Fillmore Central and Rushford-Peterson football game that all the kids are back home and safe. Neither driver was injured.
