(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Tuesday morning, 14-year-old Noah Crooks was arraigned on adult charges of murder and attempted sexual abuse.
Crooks appeared to be calm and answered the judge without any problem. Crooks entered a not guilty plea by reason of insanity, and waived his right to a speedy trial.
The now 14-year-old is charged with shooting his mother Gretchen 21 times, and attempting to sexually abuse her.
Court documents show the boy was the one who called police, and remained on the line until officers arrived.
Crooks remains in a juvenile detention center in Waterloo, IA.
