(ABC 6 News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff's office is showing off a new piece of technology that should make its job much easier.
The department received 4 license plate readers about a month ago. The readers scan license plates as deputies drive... meaning the devices can check the license plates in an entire parking in the time it takes to drive up and down each line of vehicles.
When the readers were tested last week, two vehicles were discovered to be illegal. One had a revoked license, the other had been canceled.
Better yet, the technology didn't cost tax payers a dime. They were paid for through a grant.
ABC 6 News reporter Katie Eldred is taking a closer look at the license plate scanners today. She'll show you what she found this evening on ABC 6 News.
