NORTHWOOD, Iowa (AP) - A new police officer has lost his job in northern Iowa because of an old assault charge.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that Mohamed Mohamed submitted his resignation Thursday to officials in Northwood.
Northwood Police Chief Shayne Hoch says the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy had notified the city that Mohamed was ineligible because of the misdemeanor charge.
Hoch says the charge dates back about 10 years and says Mohamed was not convicted.
Mohamed began working for the Northwood department on Oct. 14.
