(ABC 6 NEWS) - One of the biggest surprises of the election is that republican Michele Bachmann nearly lost her seat in congress.
She was in a much tighter race with Jim Graves than any of the polls predicted.
Graves called congresswoman Bachmann to congratulate her this afternoon.
The sixth district, which includes Blaine, Anoka, Monticello, and Saint Cloud, is widely considered the most conservative in our state.
So it's remarkable that a former republican presidential candidate won by such a small margin in that district.
Many critics say it was Bachmann's extreme focus on national campaigning that cost her votes.
Here's what her campaign manager, Chase Kroll had to say: "The sixth district has always been her focus, and it will continued to be her focus, so she's just gonna keep working for people in the sixth to create an environment where the economy can grow and jobs can be created."
Bachmann released a statement thanking voters and volunteers for their support saying she is working hard in Washington to keep our country safe, with opportunities for the current and future generations.
