Flags to be Lowered for Iowa Soldier

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Terry Branstad has ordered state offices to lower U.S. and state flags in honor of a western Iowa soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

Nineteen-year-old Pfc. Brandon Buttry, of Shenandoah, died Nov. 5 while serving in Kandahar Province with the U.S. Army.
 
The governor has ordered the flags lowered to half-staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.
 
A visitation is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Shenandoah.
 
The funeral is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
 
Buttry was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, which is south-southwest of Tacoma, Wash. He was deployed to Afghanistan in August.
