(ABC 6 News) -- Every Wednesday we feature an Excellent Educator from area schools that is making a difference.

This weeks educator is the Superintendent from Hayfield Public Schools.

"This means a great deal to me," says Superintendent Ron Evjen.

That's because Evjen has deep roots in Hayfield. He graduated High School in 1969, came back 20 years later as a High School Principal and eventually moved up to be the area Superintendent.

"I'm very proud as a student, administrator, parent and community member, I love it here," says Evjen.

And with his love -- also his admiration.

"I'm proud of our kids, proud of our staff and proud of our communities," says Evjen, "people say that small schools can't do it, but we prove every year that we can do it."

Maybe a small town, but a huge spirit, no doubt.

"I hope Viking pride runs deep in your vein, because it does in this guy, be proud of the education you got here, people are working very hard to give you the best they can and take it and become a good citizen."

We'd also like to wish Ron a very happy birthday as well, Thursday he turns 61.
