(ABC 6 News) -- An investigation is underway into what caused a fire at an abandoned house fire in Albert Lea.
The Albert Lea Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire on the 300 block of Winter Ave in Albert Lea around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found the house abandoned.
The Fire Department says they believe the fire started in the attic and that it had been burning for a while before they arrived. Around 15 firefighters were on the scene, all of them working carefully around the abandoned house.
"It turned into basically a defensive operation from that point we worked from the outside, there was nobody on the inside able to do anything so it took about two and a half hours to get it knocked down,” said Captain Mark Light of the Albert Lea Fire Department.
Neighbors say although the house was abandoned, it saw a lot of traffic.
“I mean there is always people going in and out. There has been kids in there breaking windows there's glass all over and they're walking around barefooted,” said neighbor Diane Thoms.
No one was hurt in the fire. Both the fire department and police department are investigating what caused the fire
