(ABC 6 News) -- Police have now ruled Sunday's house fire in Albert Lea, as arson. Police say the home had been abandoned for some time. We're told it was a tough blaze to battle. Fire crews had to work from the outside of the home for their own safety.
The home is located at the 300 block of Winter Avenue. Officials believe the fire started in the attic and that it had been burning for a while before they arrived. About 15 firefighters were on the scene of the fire, all working carefully around the structure.
Though abandoned for some time, police say it wasn't scheduled to come down, just yet. "It wasn't currently on the list to come down but it has been all 'plywooded' up, boarded up, the windows were secured and everything. From talking with people in the neighborhood, it sounds like kids may have been playing in there for some time throughout the last year," said Lt. JD Carlson with the Albert Lea Police Department.
Though ruled as arson, police aren't reveling any suspects. The fire department says no one was hurt in the fire.
