Man Killed in Minnetonka Crash Identified

One person is dead after a crash in Minnetonka Tuesday night that involved a squad car.

The crash happened at Excelsior Boulevard and Woodland Road around 9:30 p.m.

Police say a squad car with activated lights was driving westbound on Excelsior Boulevard for an emergency call. A BMW was driving northbound on Woodland Road when it was broadsided on the passenger side by the squad car.

The driver in the BMW, identified as 52-year-old Sean Kian of Minnetonka, was killed. Police say he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

The officer involved was identified as 28-year-old Daniel Aschenbrener of Minnetonka. He suffered minor injuries.
