(ABC 6 News) -- While there are many things to be cautious of during winter weather, it can also be fun. And it can be good for some local businesses too.

"I can't wait to get out there. Sledding and skiing,” said Leah Riley.

The familiar sights and sounds of winter are here.

"If you live in Minnesota, you gotta have something to brighten up your day, ya know,” said Riley.

"If you live in Minnesota you either have a snow blower or a couple snow shovels. You gotta get used to it,” said Claron Krogness.

For Krogness, the hassle of the snow is worth it.

"Traffic is kind of bad, roads are kind of bad, but it's great. We need the snow,” he said.

Krogness is a ski instructor at Welch Village. The lack of snow leaving the slopes without the regular number of skiiers.

"This will help tremendously. Plus, I think it gets everybody thinking that they can actually ski. The old syndrome, brown ground. Ya know, if I have brown in my backyard, I can't ski. And this is gonna help people get to the slopes, so we like it,” he said.

Many sledders flocked to the slopes of Judd Hill in Rochester. Chris Zinser took his three sons and new puppy.

"We grew up sledding in this neighborhood and we figured there'd be a lot of kids out. So come here some fun with the puppy,” said Zinser.

The wet, heavy snow, perfect for making snowmen.

"I thought this would be a good addition to my lights and my snowman,” said Riley.

The snow not only for fun.

"It brightens up winter. I mean winter's really dark and people get really depressed and sad during this time of year so seeing the snow kind just brightens it up."
