(ABC 6 News) -- A scary accident this morning in south east Rochester when a car hit a little girl. The 9-year-old girl was crossing 8 1/2 Street SE when she was hit by a vehicle.
The slick roads may have actually helped save the girl since the vehicle was going much slower than the speed limit and police say it could have been much worse.
The 9-year-old was crossing the street to her bus stop, the bus was not yet there, that's when the car going west bound struck her.
Witnesses told police the girl looked both ways but did not look again. She then jumped out in front of the vehicle. The driver tried his best to avoid her but she went up over the front of the car.
Several witnesses including the girls mother rushed to her side. She was taken to St. Marys with non life threatening injuries.
"When officers arrived there was three or four witnesses tending to her along with her mother the girl was crying she wanted to get up she wanted to roll over she'd been through a traumatic experience I think she was extremely scared," said Sgt. Jeff Sobcazak of the Rochester Police Department.
No citations were given for the accident police said the driver of the car was extremely cooperative and was very shaken up.
