(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The investigation into the shooting of a 16-year-old Rochester girl continues. Police say they still haven't been able to interview the girl.
Investigators tell us they've struggled to get information on her condition. They say she was last known to be in critical condition, and they believe she has undergone some surgeries.
The girl was shot by her grandfather, Stan Wilkinson, at the home of him and his wife Monday night in Southeast Rochester. The 61-year-old, who is a local pastor, told authorities he thought the girl was an intruder. She'd been living with the couple, but they thought she was in bed when they heard something at the front door. The grandfather tells police he fired two shots. The girl was hit in the neck.
Police have said they believe the shooting was an accident, but at this point the investigation is on-going. It is still to early to know if any charges will be filed.
The teen was a student at Century High School in Rochester. Administrators there say they are keeping a close eye on how other students are handling the situation and providing counseling as needed.
