(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The parents of one of two Iowa cousins who disappeared this summer are joining others for a celebration of their daughter's life.
Heather Collins said at a news conference Thursday that she knows God was with her daughter, Elizabeth, and her niece, Lyric Cook, when they were killed. She and her husband say they will meet with Gov. Terry Branstad next week to discuss death penalty legislation.
Collins is at an event at a Cedar Falls church honoring her daughter. It is called, " The Life and Love of Elizabeth Celebration." Elizabeth is being remembered as a little girl with a bright smile and bubbly attitude.
Hunters discovered the bodies of Elizabeth and Lyric last week in a wooded area near Evansdale. Elizabeth was 8 and Lyric was 10 when they disappeared in July.
Lyric's family says a service for her will be scheduled after Christmas or early next year. Thursday marks five months to the day that the girls were abducted while riding their bikes in Evansdale. Police have made no arrests, and haven't named any suspects.
