(ABC 6 News) -- A Lot of local educators as well as others who work in the schools are reacting to today's horrendous events. We talked to the Kingsland Superintendent in Spring Valley.

We asked him about security and how something like this could happen. He says it's almost unfathomable but unfortunately it can happen and schools need to be prepared.

"If there is a shooter that gets inside your building, to minimize and to keep kids safe and to keep them out of harm's way is an enormous task," said John McDonald the Kingland School District Superintendent.

McDonald says the district runs evacuation drills often and the goal is to find a way to improve the response time.
