JOB TITLE: Producer/Reporter
COMPANY: KAAL, News/Weather/Sports
SCHEDULE: Produce for the weekend newscast (Sat. & Sun)  and news reporter 3 days during the week
STATUS: Full Time, Hourly

QUALIFICATIONS:

• College degree in broadcast journalism or comparable experience.
• Previous experience working in newsroom environment and producing newscasts.
• Good news judgment.
• Must be compelling storytellers and must have excellent writing skills: writing must be clear, accurate and interesting.
• Ability to breakdown complicated and involved stories so that they are easy for viewers to understand.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.  Must be able to respond and work well in a crisis.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Valid drivers license and with a good driving record.

DUTIES:

• Stay abreast of local, national and world events.  Have a good understanding of what is going on in communities in our market.
• Responsible for overall content of newscast.
• Monitor scanners for breaking local news.
• Write topical promotions and news updates as needed.
• Call and gather information for news stories.
• Work closely with assignment editor to coordinate story coverage.
• Responsible for researching, shooting, writing, and editing stories for broadcast on air and on line consistent with the station standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Knowledgeable of issues, newsmakers, and current events and be able to present stories in a way that is accurate, clear, complete, and relevant to viewers.
• Must maintain a professional appearance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Must be able to work in an area that is often noisy and has many distractions.
• Must be able to move quickly at times from newsroom to edit booths to production control room.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs (camera equipment).
• Also must be able to work in extreme outdoor weather conditions.
