(ABC 6 News) - Roger Bergmann has been arrested in connection with the shooting. However, he has not yet been charged.
Authorities took a 39-year-old Canton man into custody just before 2 p.m. in relation to a shooting in Preston nearly 2 hours earlier.
The Fillmore County Sheriff says a 49-year-old Preston woman was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with an apparent gunshot wound. At last report she was still in surgery.
Sheriff Daryl Jenson says the woman was shot inside a home in Preston at 12:20 Friday afternoon and there was at least one other person who witnessed the shooting and was able to tell officers who the shooter was.
The suspect was found driving east on Highway 16, between Whalan and Peterson by a Rushford Police officer. That officer chased him into Winona County where officials from Winona and Houston counties, as well as the Minnesota State Police helped to stop him.
The suspect gave up after a 30 minute standoff with police.
Sheriff Jensen says, while officials knew who the suspect was, there was a 40 minute window where they didn't know where he was.
As a result, Fillmore Central Schools were locked down during the incident.
