(ABC 6 NEWS) -- While many are sitting down with their families over a nice meal this Christmas, there are those that will go hungry.
At the Channel One Food Bank they are doing their best to make sure that doesn't happen.
There was a mad dash at the grocery store as everyone grabbed their last ingredients to prepare their favorite Christmas meals.
But for some families like Sophia McQuiston's the holidays can be tough.
"I'm used to it, that I don't get a really nice Christmas," said McQuiston.
“So many of us go to bed at night and we say thank you for the house that we have, the heat that we have, and the food that we have, but there are so many families all throughout our community that don't have that," said Jennifer Woodford.
Woodford of Channel One Food Bank says there are far too many families in the community that go hungry.
"The holidays are no exception and sometimes it's even harder because people still want to buy presents for their families and unfortunately it’s an added layer of stress."
Channel One was flooded with calls Christmas Eve from callers hoping to feed their families. Thankfully the holidays also bring an uptick in donations.
"So many people think of giving during the holidays and that is so important," said Woodford.
Little Sophia McQuiston has been the recipient of that generosity. She says two young girls she didn't know bought her Christmas presents.
"This Christmas I got presents from some girls named Mariah and Melissa."
Like many she couldn't be more thankful.
"I really really like that, and I thank them a lot."
Channel One says they are always looking for donations. We've posted a link to their drop off sites on our website under links.
