(ABC 6 News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff's Department has identified the suspect shot by one of its deputies in Dover Monday.
Authorities say Joshua Pagel fled a incident in St. Charles and was found hiding under a camper in Dover. Two officers negotiated with him for nearly 30 minutes, but say Pagel charged them when he came out of hiding.
One of the officers fired a "less-lethal sock round" at Pagel hitting him, but they say he kept charging. The same officer then fired another "less-lethal" round at very close range.
Police say Pagel is in serious but stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon. They say he's being charged with Felony Domestic Assault by Winona County and that the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is handling the investigation.
We did some checking and found Pagel has a lengthy criminal history including convictions for assault with a dangerous weapon, fleeing police, and DWI.
One final note: the mug shot shown with this story was taken in 2007.
