(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It's a story that is now taking social media by storm.
A dog in north Iowa locked in a kennel for weeks, was forced to survive by eating her own tail.
The ending of Goldie's story hasn't been written yet, as the Humane Society is working to find her a loving home.
And maybe, it's yours.
As one of eight dogs abandoned by her owner in Forest City, Goldie was locked in a kennel for nearly three weeks.
Without any food, and a very limited water supply, Goldie ate part of her tail in order to survive.
It's at the hands of humans, that Goldie had to do this to herself, " said the Humane Society's Sybil Soukup.
Fearing she would have to be put down, the man who found the animals made one last phone call to the humane society of north Iowa.
This seven year old golden retriever has a new lease on life, and is now ready to find a new home.
"She's got a long journey to go, she was 20 pounds underweight when we got her, so she's got some pounds to gain, but as you can tell, she's very playful. She puts the retriever in golden retriever, it's her favorite thing to do," Soukup said.
If you are interested in giving Goldie a home, you can contact the Humane Society of North Iowa.
Note that they are taking a number of applications and will the working to find Goldie the best home sometime next week.
