A new report shows Minneapolis 911 dispatchers are taking longer to answer emergency calls three out of the last four years. The report shows 911 operators answer calls in a little over seven seconds. City officials would like them to answer calls in about five seconds. The report also says the City has slower response times for dispatching police patrols to a "high priority" call. Minneapolis police and fire do respond to a scene of an emergency in plenty of time, but one City Council member tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they are always striving for improvements.\
City Council member, Betsy Hodges, pushed for, and got, two additional 911 dispatchers in the 2013 budget. Hodges says the City will study how well the new system is working and monitor the volume of 911 calls in 2013 and then decide if they should hire more 911 operators in 2014.
