New details emerging in the homicide in Austin, how the victim and suspect were related. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Dennis Seberson, 86 of Austin was the victim, the suspect was his son, Craig Seberson, 46.
One day after investigators searched the scene of a homicide, a brother and son is left to put together the pieces.
"It's very difficult. It's hard to come here, you lose your brother and your dad at the same time. It's very difficult, but we love them very much,” said Kelly Seberson the son of the victim and brother of the suspect.
86-year-old Dennis Seberson died of homicide as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. The suspect and victim’s son, Craig Seberson died of head injuries when he was ejected from his car after leading police on a chase for more than 50 miles with speeds exceeding 130 miles an hour.
"I want everybody to know, it's a terrible tragedy,” said Kelly Seberson.
Police responded to a call of yells for help and a body on the ground in front of Dennis Seberson’s home shortly after 3:00 a.m. Friday. What led to that incident is unclear, but Kelly Seberson said his brother, who was living in Meservey, Iowa, suffered greatly from mental illness.
"It was more of a domestic I think than anything else. And it just shows the real need for good mental health care in the area,” said Seberson.
He says not only is this tragedy a loss for the family, but for the whole community.
"My dad was the greatest guy in the world. He took care of everybody that he ever met and I'm very sorry for my brother and of course we do forgive him as would my parents.
A memorial is planned for both Dennis and Craig on Tuesday at Crane Community Chapel in Austin. The times are tentatively scheduled for a visitation at noon and services at 2 p.m.
