Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the new Vikings Stadium has the city in position to attract another Super Bowl.
The Mayor also wants the city to aggressively pursue the Democratic National Convention. Rybak says Minneapolis put on a great show for the Super Bowl in 1992 and with an upgraded stadium, it will even be better a second time around.
Convention Center officials say the Super Bowl is now a two-week festival that pumps hundreds of millions of dollars into the local economy. Mayor Rybak tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Minneapolis will have a first-class stadium and is a big league city that can throw a world class party. Rybak says the NFL is a big-time commodity and the city needs to capitalize on this great opportunity to host another Super Bowl.
Convention Center officials say the city could know about the success of their bid as early as the end of this year. But, it is likely the announcement on which city gets the 2018 Super Bowl probably won't come until the spring of 2014.
