(ABC 6 News) - A sex offender, who was convicted of assaulting a 16-year-old female acquaintance in Olmsted County in 2008, has disappeared from his work release unit in Fargo, North Dakota.
Fargo Police say Ashante Otis Epps is a moderate risk offender who applied for registration in Fargo in November of 2012. However, he recently left to join his work release unit and never returned.
"He's on the loose," says Lt. Joel Vettell, of the Fargo P.D. "We have no reason to believe he's left the area, but we also have no reason to believe he stayed either."
Legally speaking, Epps has failed to maintain his registration in accordance with state law and has failed to notify the Fargo Police Department of his change in address and to maintain communication with law enforcement. Epps is required to register as a sex offender until April 1, 2035.
