ABC 6 News) -- Many people got their permit to carry training in Brownsdale Saturday, in a place that you wouldn't expect to learn about guns.
Langtry Café, the only cafe in Brownsdale draws in many hungry locals, but today people came for more than just the grub.
Having a permit to carry class in the café is something new and nearly 40 gun owners were eager to learn.
"I said well I don't know if this room can hold 40 people or not but we'll fit them in," said Langtry Café Owner Steve Nagel.
Greg Reis has been a certified instructor for years. He says the number of women who turned out for the training is surprising.
"Typically in the past maybe 10 percent of my students were women and today it's more like 25," said Reis.
"It's just a security thing. We probably will never carry but we have it in case we do need to carry," said DeAnne Silbaugh.
DeAnne Silbaugh wasn't alone today, in fact she brought most of her family with her.
Even a windy day couldn't keep DeAnne from putting on her pink ear protection and completing the training
"I like seeing women taking the responsibility of their own personal safety," said Reis.
"It felt really good. I think the more I practice with it I'll be a lot more comfortable, I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it," said Silbaugh.
And more people will have the same opportunity, this isn't the last training session at Langtry Café.
"The reception of this has been overwhelming, I mean we are going to have at least two more classes and then one next fall," said Nagel.
The next permit to carry class at the Langtry Café is already sold out and they are now filling spaces for the third training session.
