CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) - A 31-year-old northern Iowa man has been sentenced to as many as five years in prison for soliciting the murder of a teenage girl who'd accused him of sexual assault.
Alan Cannon, of Clear Lake, pleaded guilty in January after prosecutors dropped three related charges. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports Cannon told the court on Monday that he knows his actions had brought him shame.
Authorities say Cannon tried to hire someone between November 25, 2011, and March 25, 2012, to kill the teenager. A jury convicted Cannon of a misdemeanor assault charge and of supplying alcohol in the original case in June. At that time he was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $500.
