(ABC 6 News) - A Rochester police officer was injured Wednesday night after a foot chase that ended in a retention pond.

Rochester police officers were escorting a 26-year-old male to their crisis receiving unit when he broke free and took off running.

An officer chased him through a parking lot and eventually over a retention pond. But both men fell through the ice on top of pond. Fortunately it wasn't very deep and both men were able to crawl out.

The officer required medical attention due to a cut and an injury to his leg during the pursuit.

The 26-year-old was returned to the crisis receiving unit.
