(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Austin Packaging Company confirms to ABC 6 News it will be laying off nearly half its workforce due to declining sales. Right now, there are 250 employees at the plant.
Company officials say they'll be closing their frozen pizza division at the start of April, leaving roughly 125 people without a job.
Austin Packaging does not produce its own pizzas, but makes them for other businesses. The company says clients are halting production due to poor sales. That is forcing the layoffs.
Employees have been notified. We're told the layoffs will happen sometime in the next two weeks. Austin Packaging officials say they weren't expecting the job cuts to come so quickly, but their clients decided to stop production sooner than first thought.
