When we relaunched our Get Fit segment, you watched us Get Fit. The morning crew teamed up with area Y's and Hy-Vee's and took the workouts to new heights -- even hitting the ice. But the focus on today's segment is towards a woman with an inspirational story.
"In 2008, my world completely fell apart," says Lori Yokiel.
In 2008 Lori Yokiel was winning the battle on sobriety, but her world was about to take a drastic turn.
"We ended up losing a baby. I ended up losing my marriage, bankruptcy and foreclosure. But my outsides did not match my insides," she remembers.
Lori said when she stepped in front of the mirror, it wasn't the reflection of the fun, talented, hardworking and active woman she wanted others to see. That's when she decided to turn her upside down world right side up. How? By hiring a personal trainer.
"They teach me everything, they learn about my body, they know exactly what I need and don't need. And they're there for encouragement and support. When I don't know what to do, I just call my personal trainer."
Lori's workout consists of a mix of weight lifting and cardio, which she does every 5 to 6 days a week at the Y in Rochester. On top of that she eats healthy and has run in 33 races... including 1 full marathon. After four years it has all paid off.
"From dropping 60 pounds and 50 inches, it just keeps getting better and better. Now I know the weights and weights sculpt you, so I'm able to do that," she says.
But Lori's story doesn't end here. In 2010 she was a sponsored runner through Marathon Bars. Even though that sponsorship ended last year, she says she continues to run and workout to achieve her fitness goals and to stay a positive, sober and fit influence for her children.
"I've always had a support group. So per say Team Red, I'm a part of Team Red. So it's very important to have someone to lean on and to motivate you and inspire you."
Lori says her goal is to become a motivational speaker. If you'd like to reach out to her, you can contact her through her Facebook page. You can find a link here on our website. Just go to "Featured Links" underneath the "News" tab.
