IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A judge has sentenced a former University of Iowa student from China to up to 17 years in prison for sexually abusing another Chinese student and threatening her to stay quiet.

Judge Ian Thornhill issued the sentence to Peng Tang in a Johnson County courtroom on Monday.
The sentence caps a case that shocked a campus where enrollment of Chinese students has skyrocketed in recent years.
Police say the 22-year-old Tang made arrangements to tour an apartment in March 2002 that a female student had advertised for sublease. They say he asked to see the bedroom, where he confined the woman and forced her to perform sex acts. He then had her pose for nude photographs that he warned would be posted online if she told anyone what happened.
