(ABC 6 News) -- Since the beginning of the school year we have been featuring Excellent Educators every Wednesday.

This week we are honoring a high school teacher and U.S. Marine from Hayfield.

Vince Reynolds was shocked when ABC 6 News surprised him Wednesday with the award.

"Wow, this is very cool," says Reynolds, "I am just doing my job the best that I can, it's humbling, it's an honor."

And it's an honor for Hayfield High School to have such a passionate history teacher.

"I love inspiring kids and I like conversing with them, discussing topics with kids and watching them get fired up about history," he says.

Reynolds teaches American History, but with his own flare. As a U.S. Marine, he uses his own experiences to help teach. Reynolds has traveled the world visiting 26 countries and with that, countless stories to share with his students.

"I have a first hand account of this is how people live, this is what its like over there, instead of just reading it in a school book or seeing it on a video clip, I can tell them first hand and share my experiences."

Now he's heading out to country number 27 --- Morocco -- and his students can't wait to hear what he brings back.
