(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Locally, those on the other side are supporting their right to own guns. They're doing it by encouraging people to bring guns, inside their restaurant.
"Every Thursday we have a conceal and carry day. So if you come out with a concealed gun you get 15% off your meal,” said Steve Nagel, Owner of Langtry Café.
The offer doesn't stop there. If you carry your gun out in the open, “that's 25% off your meal,” said Nagel.
Steve Nagel is the Owner of Langtry Café in Brownsdale. As we've reported, his café has hosted conceal and carry permit classes in the recent past. Four of which have already sold out.
"That just kind of led me into having a little bit of fun with it,” said Nagel.
Steve says most of this customers have a permit to carry, so he enjoys giving them a discounted meal for demonstrating their 2nd Amendment rights.
"Steve's the type of fellow that would do that and I'm glad he did,” said customer Edsol Sprung.
"Whatever they chose to do it's their deal and they're not violating any state statues nor are they violating anything with the permit to carry process,” said Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi.
Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi has seen a dramatic increase in the recent numbers of permit to carry, but paying less for a hamburger for carrying a gun? That's a first.
"It's certainly unique for Mower County,” said Amazi.
The café has honored the conceal and carry discount for three weeks now.
"Around here anyway, I haven't heard any negative comments about it,” said Sprung.
"I haven't seen anybody walk out, but I'm sure there's a possibility that they may be offended,” said Nagel.
"It wasn't something that I really intended to make a statement, it's just become a thing that's just caught on here,” said Nagel.
The owners of the Langtry Café certainly are making a statement, and it's growing in popularity. Two permit to carry classes next month are already sold out. They do plan to hold more this summer.
