MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A petition with more than 1,000 signatures will force the Mason City School Board to reconsider imposition of an instructional support levy on the district.
The Mason City Globe Gazette says the signatures were turned in at the board's meeting Monday night. The board didn't act on the petition Monday but is expected to discuss the issue at its May meeting.
A district official says around 600 signatures were required to force the board to either rescind the levy or put it up for a public vote.
The levy approved in March would raise $1.7 million a year.
