(ABC 6 News) -- ABC 6 News loves honoring our area educators.

This week's Excellent Educator is an elementary teacher from Rochester.

"For years, I've seen different people that I know get the award, but never thought that anyone would go ahead and nominate me, so its quite an honor," says Wendy Tufto.

Tufto has been teaching for 20 years -- her current role -- teaching 2nd grade at Ben Franklin Elementary in Rochester.

"It's the only thing I've ever wanted," says Tufto of teaching. Ever since she was a little girl, teaching was in her life and she owes that to two very important people.

"My aunt Viola was a one room school teacher, she has inspired me about teaching, and my uncle taught me my first word, 'Bob,' his name," chuckles Tufto. "So they have meant a lot to me in my life."

Hoping to share some of her love for education with her students.

"Instilling in them that they are a part of something big," she says, "we've come up with a motto, TEAM TUFTO -- Together Everyone Achieves More."

And with Mrs. Tufto leading they way, they sure will.
