(ABC 6 News) -- Police in Rochester say a man has been taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation following a standoff that lasted five hours.
It started around 5:00 Wednesday afternoon when police responded to a report of a man armed and suicidal. Police went to the apartment complex on the 900 block of North Broadway where the man was held up. They say he wouldn't come out. SWAT members, police, and Olmsted County Sheriff's deputies surrounded the building.
Police closed a section of North Broadway between 7th and 14th streets, and also evacuated the apartment building the man was in along with another nearby complex. People in nearby businesses were also told to remain inside.
Just before 10:00 p.m. police used a flash-bang device to get inside. The man was then taken into custody. At this point , police say he has mental issues and likely won't face criminal charges. More information is expected to be released Thursday morning.
