(ABC 6 News) -- A very brazen crime this week, after a man attempted to take a child in North Iowa.
"It's a mother's worst nightmare," says Showalter.
Katie Showalter says she was out with her 6-month-old son Saturday and decided to swing by the bar she owns, Rumorz in Clear Lake, to use the restroom. Showalter left her son with a friend and several minutes later, according to police, a man came in and tried to take the child.
That man was identified as 33-year-old Jonathan Lindsey Workman of Cedar Rapids. He was arrested and charged with three felonies including child stealing.
"I'm so glad we just got a new security system," says Showalter,"I kept pushing him toward the camera."
In the surveillance video, you can see a man reaching for the baby, snatching the baby and knocking Showalter's friend onto the floor.
Other patrons in the bar then prevented Workman from leaving and called police. At that point, Showalter ran back to the front of the bar and fought with the man to get her baby back.
Showalter tells us, Workman kept calling her son by the name "M-J" and kept saying the baby was his. However, Showalter tells us, she had never seen the man before.
Workman has posted bail and the mother tells us she fears he may come back.
