(ABC 6 NEWS) -- A scary situation for a woman driving along Highway 63 near Rochester when she came across a three year old, wandering all alone.
The woman quickly pulled over, ran across the highway, and grabbed the little girl. The woman who found her says she was soaking wet, covered in mud and what smelled like cow manure. This all happened Monday afternoon on Highway 63 near I-90.
Tiffany Hyke of Stewartville says there was no hesitation when she saw the child. She quickly pulled into the ditch and ran across the highway, giving the little girl a bear hug.
"She was really, really calm. I'm like you know what's your name, she told me her name, and then I said where do you live, she said I need to find my mommy and so at this point, I was crying and she was calm,” said Hyke.
Hyke says someone must have been watching over the little girl because just moments after this happened, a social worker pulled over. After checking her ID, Tiffany gave her the little girl.
The toddler’s mother called ABC 6 after seeing the story posted on our Facebook page. She said the little girl wandered away from her dad’s, but she has been reunited with her and says she is grateful that she is safe.
As far as charges for something like this, Olmsted County Family and Child Services says they look at everything on a case-by-case basis.
