(ABC 6 News) - The mother of a Stewartville soldier who was killed in action is the most recent victim of an online scam.
Jacqueline Carson’s son Nicholas Dickhut was killed in Afghanistan last year on April 29th, the day of his younger brother’s birthday. In order to cheer up her younger son on his birthday this year she had hoped to buy him a puppy.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department she replied to an online post for a puppy in California. The post told her to send $230 dollars and then the puppy would be shipped.
She sent the money, but grew suspicious when the post asked her to send an additional $400 dollars to receive the dog.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department says it's investigating the case.
Carson told ABC 6 News she is still hoping to get her son a dog for his birthday.
