Multiple Grass Fires Burn North of Metro

Multiple grass fires were burning north of the metro Saturday afternoon.


The first reported fire was in the Anoka/Andover area around 5 p.m. The fires were burning near Hanson and Bunker Lake Blvds. west to 7th Ave.

Chopper 5 captured video of flames that came close to some homes in Andover.

There were nine different fires reported in the area.

No injuries were reported, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Four to five agencies were assisting.

The fires were burning mostly in marshlands.

The causes of the fires are being investigated.


The Chisago County Sheriff's Office also reported a grass fire that started around 5:30 p.m. in Wyoming, Minn.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged. Three agencies assisted to put out the flames in the 24000 block of Esquire Blvd.

At this point it's unclear what caused the fire.

East Bethel/Coon Lake

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office reported a grass fire just after 6 p.m. near 185th and Lexington Avenue. No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

KSTP.com Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas said conditions are ripe for these types of fires.
