(ABC 6 NEWS)-- Osage Police are working to find the person responsible for breaking into a local dealership and stealing a car. The Owner of McKinley Auto & RV in Osage says the thief had the pick of the lot, but instead chose a vehicle inside the service department.
"I noticed the glass has been broken threw the service department door and it looked like we were missing a car at the time," said Mark McKinley.
Mark McKinley owns the dealership and came into work Saturday morning to find an empty space where a 2008 gold Buick Lucerne sat the night before.
"They would have to go inside, unlock this door. Obviously the buttons on these doors are on all the time, so they just literally opened this door and drove the car out then came back through the door and shut it and off they went,” said McKinley.
An Osage man had just bought the vehicle and planned on picking it up this week, but now that car is gone.
"I made the phone call to him to tell him what happened and he was understandably quite upset," said McKinley.
There were no security cameras running at the time of the burglary. Osage Police say they have a few leads, but it's an ongoing investigation.
"We've entered it on the state computers so if somebody happens to run the license plate it will come up stolen and hopefully we can recover it that way,” said Brian Wright, Osage Chief of Police
Mark McKinley says this is the first time - in more than 20 years - a car has been stolen from the dealership.
"You go along everyday thinking if your doors are locked you're secure but you're really not. I think it's very rare to have a theft of this magnitude in a town this size," said McKinley.
Mark McKinley is spreading the word through social media, posting the make and model of the stolen car on Facebook and Craigslist. He's offering a $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
