(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It brings out thousands of fans and players to each city it visits, which is why the Rochester YMCA is so excited to bring a Gus Macker basketball tournament to town this August.
"I think we'll get a lot of people trickling down from the Cities and Wisconsin, so I think we'll have a good showing in Rochester," Andy Carson said.
Carson is just one of many who've played in Macker Tournaments before.
"Coming in to all the parking lots full of basketball courts, being a basketball fan, I just loved it," Andy Carson said.
"A lot of times, you have pro basketball players from overseas coming in for the summer. You'll have big-time Division I college players coming back just to play," AJ Carson said.
AJ has teamed up with his brother to play in four different Gus Mackers, and they've had some success, both as a team - a second place finish in one tournament - and in the dunk contest.
"The main thing is, you have to make your dunks," AJ said. "So I was just in there - your typical white guy just throwing down some basic dunks. I made them and advanced (AJ finished third), so that was fun."
So what's the secret to mastering the Macker?
"The main thing you want is a point guard - a guard that can shoot - and a big man who can rebound. If you have those two, that's the formula for success," AJ said.
"There's a lot of talent that comes to town, so I'm really happy that they're bringing one to Rochester," Andy said.
