(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It was a crime that left us stunned -- a young boy ... barely a teenager ... accused of an unspeakable act.
On Tuesday, jury selection began in a trial that will dictate that boy's future.
It was March 24th of last year that 37 year old Gretchen Crooks was shot to death at her home near Osage. Her teenaged son is on trial for her death.
14 year old Noah Crooks is charged with first degree murder and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.
Investigators say it was Noah crooks who called 9-1-1 to report the shooting.
A judge has ruled that most of the statements Crooks made to police after the death of his mother cannot be used in court because investigators did not get *written* permission from the boy's father.
The 9-1-1 call made from the Crooks home outside of Osage will still be allowed.
Noah Crooks was 13 year old at the time of the shooting. He has pleaded *not guilty* to the charges, and his attorneys have filed documents to pursue a diminished capacity, or insanity defense.
His trial was moved to Wright county after a defense request for a change of venue because of pre-trial publicity.
Prospective jurors were told that Noah Crooks' trial is expected to last about two weeks.
