ROCHESTER, Minn. – (6:10 a.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises no unnecessary travel in Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha and Winona counties, due to heavy snow and reduced visibility.
Motorists should beware of blowing and drifting snow crating whiteout conditions.
Officials do not anticipate any interstate or highway closures at this time; however, motorists may encounter brief lane and road closures where crashes occur.
MnDOT snow plow operators are doing their part to make highways safe. Motorists should remember to:
· --Drive slowly on bridges, overpasses and tunnels.
· --Use a safe speed for winter driving conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit.
· --Keep a safe stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you.
· --Keep both hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road and attention on your driving.
