(ABC 6 NEWS) - The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office is suspending all open burning for Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
Strong winds, high temperatures and dry conditions are expected throughout the day, prompting the restriction on open burning. Weather conditions with cooler temperatures and lighter winds are expected to return to the area on Wednesday.
If conditions moderate as expected, open burning will resume on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. The suspension does not include a restriction on recreational fires as defined by state law.
Freeborn County has adopted a Burning Ordinance governing open burning. Although written burning permits are no longer issued, all persons wishing to burn are required to call the Sheriff’s Office to provide information on the location of the burn and who is responsible. During the burning suspension, those who call to provide that information will be informed of the burning restriction and will not be allowed to burn. Anyone violating the Burning Ordinance or chooses to burn during a restricted time period is subject to citation and fines.
