(ABC 6 News) -- Amy Northrop teaches sixth grade at Pine Island Elementary School but she hasn't always taught sixth grade and she hasn't always known she wanted to become a teacher.
"I was actually going to be news person, yeah, I thought I was going to be really good and I tried it in college and I was really bad," she chuckles.
It wasn't until she taught swimming lessons that she realized teaching was her path. "It just felt good and natural to me to kind of continue with that," says Northrop.
She also loves to engage them outside of class too, as a coach.
"I like being out there with them and I like being active," she says.
"I love my job."
