(ABC 6 NEWS) -- She didn't come right out and say it, but Dani Wagner's mantra is basically actions speak louder than words.
"She's our silent leader, she does everything by example. She's not too vocal, just doing the things that she needs to do during the game," said Hayfield head coach Jana Wagner.
And it seems like the junior's example is rubbing off. The Hayfield Vikings are in the Section 1A championship Thursday, after having to fight all season long to get there.
"We're a pretty young team and we lost a lot of key players last year so, we knew it was going to be an uphill battle," said Wagner.
"We have been battling back well, and we've been hitting the ball well," said Coach Wagner.
And Wagner is the backbone of that. In the leadoff spot, she's hitting about .620 and leads the team in runs.
"I think all the kids probably know when she's up, it's a good deal, that she will probably be hitting the ball. And it allows the other kids to see the ball," said Wagner, Dani's mom.
So Dani, her mom, and the rest of the Vikings get Blooming Prairie Thursday in the section final. No matter what happens, Wagner just hopes this team can look back and be proud.
"I'm hoping we can end on a good note, wherever that may be. But, as long as we do what we could have done, then I'll be happy," Dani said.
